MEET THE BAND
This fantastic group of performers bring pure talent to every show.
Fred was exposed to the sounds of Jimi Hendrix and Muddy Waters at a young age and frequently wailed on air guitar, especially after hearing the chugging riffs of Metallica on MTV as a teenager. At the age of 14, Fred had found his favorite thing to do and rounded up others to jam with. Even from the start, Fred has always had an intensity that translates to quality music and good vibes. After playing in high school groups, writing, recording, and personal study, Fred attended Columbia College Chicago (he followed Judson!) for his Bachelor of Arts. He studied jazz with Bill Boris, Peter Saxe and the late, great Frank Dawson.
When Fred’s not pickin’ and grinnin’ with Bella Cain, he records and melts faces with his jazz fusion projects: General Zod, Tresmos, and Stereo Genius, which include some of the finest players in Chicago. Fred also enjoys teaching the next generation of little shredders.
Judson has been playing and singing music for about as long as he can remember. After several years of piano lessons, he taught himself to play guitar in his teens by attempting to shred along with Ozzy Osbourne recordings. While attending Columbia College Chicago, his friends dragged him into the world of jazz where he developed an ear for harmony and an appreciation for music theory. The lack of opportunities in the jazz world, which had been steadily shrinking since the 1940s, prompted Judson to seek a different musical path. He was introduced to country through the music of Brad Paisley, which provoked the realization that music could be both technically advanced AND popular. He hasn’t looked back since. After graduation, he spent four years playing lead guitar for Southern Exposure before joining Bella Cain. Outside of Bella Cain, Judson remains active as an acoustic performer both as a solo act and with the Judson Brown Band Trio.
Russ has been spending most of his life living in a gangsta’s paradise. He started playing violin (fiddle – it’s the same thing) at age 4. He has been fortunate to be actively performing with bands since he was 13. Russ was part of The Other Side, Yahoo, Wahoo (Spa-hoo), countless un-named basement projects, Modern Giants for 2 years, Pinstripe and of course, 9 years with The Toys. He also enjoys writing his own music, but no – he doesn’t have a CD. His originals should be ready for public consumption in about 5 or 6 years.
Russ loves 70’s funk, 90’s alternative, and a lot of the new stuff on the radio. He has seen some great bands live, like They Might Be Giants (A Self Called Nowhere is his favorite song), Rush, Red Hot Chili Peppers, My Chemical Romance (sucks that they broke up), Metallica and Maroon 5. He just loves music, even classical. Beethoven and Tchaikovsky are the best, but Mozart’s good, too. And now he’s gone Country!
Oh, he won a WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) once too. “That was cool”. Russ just loves performing and hopefully, people like listening. He is excited to share the stage with some extremely talented musicians. So quit reading his bio and go to a show already!
Dustin has been with the band since May 2018, but has playing bass since high school. His parents were both in an oldies and classic rock band while he was growing up, which helped shape him as a musician. He’s played in other local bands throughout the years, but loves playing in Bella Cain because these are the biggest shows he’s ever played. He loves meeting the fans so find him after the shows and say hi!
Bio Coming Soon
Rob began playing the drums at a very early age. With the support of his parents Ken & Cindy, he was soon enrolled in weekly drums lessons lasting nearly 15 years, learning every type and style of music available under the instruction of drumming “Great” Joe Varhula. He was involved in music while in school (Jazz Band, Concert/Symphonic Band, and garage bands), was selected to perform in the State of Illinois’s “All-State Band” and was a 7-time winner at the State of Illinois’s Solo/Ensemble Competition. At 17, Rob began playing professionally (playing bars, clubs and honky tonks throughout IL/WI) and his senior year of high school was awarded a music scholarship. While playing with various local bands and having the love of every type of music ranging from Rock and Blues to Hip-Hop and R&B, Rob had the opportunity to join a local country band (Exit South) and that’s where his love for country music began. Shortly after leaving that project, Rob decided to start his own project (The Bottom Line) which soon became a local favorite and WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) winner for “Country Band of the Year” and “New Group of the Year”. After great success, Rob decided to move on and pursue music at a higher level and in 2003 started a new group named “Chasin Mason”. With his new project at his fingertips, he led that group to greatness in Southeast Wisconsin/Northern Illinois and had many great opportunities.
Rob has had the opportunity to share the stage with, open for, and even perform with such greats as Tim McGraw, Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, Faith Hill, Brooks and Dunn, Tanya Tucker, Terri Clark, Martina McBride, Billy Dean, and many more. He was nominated “Drummer of the Year” by the WAMI organization, has recorded in Nashville, sat behind the drums on the Grand Ole Opry, and performed for thousands at such events as: Summer fest, Country Thunder, Country USA, WI State Fair, Taste of Chicago, Bradley Center, All-State Arena, and the Chicago Country Music Fest. Rob has been interviewed and performed on FOX several times and has had the pleasure of working alongside FM106 (Clear Channel-WMIL/FM106) out of Milwaukee and Chicago’s own US-99! In April of 2010, Rob decided to once again shock the “Regional” Country Music Scene by building and leading his greatest group yet. He has assembled who he believes to be the best musicians in the area in the effort to build a Young, High-Energy, Driving, Rocking, and Non-Stop Country Band you’ve all come to know as…Bella Cain!
We pride ourselves on working only with the best!
